Criminal Justice Instructor Sayre Campus

JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Criminal Justice Instructor
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for teaching a competency-based instructional program in Criminal Justice. Teaches knowledge, attitudes, and skills in tactical and general principles associated with criminal justice and law enforcement. This includes, but is not limited to, police officer functions and fundamentals; traffic management and investigation; criminal law; investigation procedures; forensic science; response to bioterrorism; firearm safety; the proper use of tools and equipment; and the leadership and employability skills necessary for the criminal justice profession.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students enrolled in program.
REPORTS TO: Certified personnel, staff position assigned to the office of the Sayre Campus Director, who is responsible for supervision and evaluation. Evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of laws of the State of Oklahoma and the board's policy on performance appraisal reviews for certified personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred qualifications for the ideal candidate include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, education or a related field supplemented by formal training and/or certifications within a specialty area such as Field Training Officer, K-9, SWAT, Investigations, CSI, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Law Enforcement Driver’s Training, etc. Additionally, candidates must be employed in law enforcement for minimum of 3 out of the previous 5 years. Preferred qualifications for the ideal candidate include having graduated from an Oklahoma Law Enforcement Training Academy receiving a peace officer certification through Oklahoma’s Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) or having received reciprocity as a Peace Officer from CLEET.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: The ideal candidate should possess certification through CLEET as a Basic Law Enforcement Instructor. The ideal candidate must either have a current Standard Teacher’s Certification for Trade and Industry Education or the ability to obtain a
Provisional 1 Certification through the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technical Education and issued by the Oklahoma Department of Education. The ideal candidate must have CLEET Peace Officer Certification and an Oklahoma Driver License.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret and discuss common publications in the field of law enforcement and criminal justice. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the law enforcement and criminal justice community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and an advisory committee.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts in practical situations that are necessary for the field of law enforcement and criminal justice.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Good working knowledge of the operating practices of vocational education. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to establish good rapport with co-workers, school administration, users, vendors, and others is essential. Ability to operate a computer and working knowledge of various on-line and software programs that are considered an integral part of the law enforcement and criminal justice workplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. INSTRUCTION
- Teaches students using individualized, competency-based instruction methodologies consistent with effective teaching practices.
- Develops and organizes curricula materials to implement a performance-based Criminal Justice program.
- Utilizes Learning Activity Packets and a variety of instructional materials to enhance the delivery of instruction to accommodate students’ learning styles.
- Provides instruction and supervision in the classroom and skills laboratory.
- Evaluates student achievement based on assignments, tests, and performance check- offs according to the grading policy and procedures.
- Instructs students in safety procedures necessary for the safe operation of equipment and the care of materials, supplies, furniture, and facilities.
- Works with the Academic Center staff in providing educational services for students.
- Uses the district approved computer-based grade book and attendance software to record student grades.
2. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
- Maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Maintains accurate student records including attendance and academic progress in the grade book. Also, maintains accurate student records for those students on OJT and School-to-Work assignments.
- Provides records and reports as required by the school district and state.
- Maintains discipline and assists in the appropriate placement of graduates/student completers.
- Assists in developing the program budget and operates within the program budget following established procedures.
- Develops and maintains an active program Advisory Committee to maintain positive relationships with individuals in the field of criminal justice and law enforcement.
3. OTHER
- Sponsors a local chapter of the SkillsUSA student organization.
- Serves as chapter advisor and oversees activities and student involvement.
- Participates in local, regional, state, and national skills events and activities.
- Coordinates and supervises community service projects, fundraising and other student activities.
- Maintains professional competence.
- Participates in the school’s strategic plan and professional development opportunities.
- Participates in school committees and in career technology teacher professional organizations.
- Performs such other duties and tasks as may be assigned.

This position is for a ten (10) month period beginning August 1 and ending May 31. Certified teachers employed ten (10) months do not earn vacation leave.

Bus Driver
Bus route begins in Elk City and ends in Elk City. Route consists of two daily round trips. Additional secondary duties will be assigned at the Burns Flat campus between routes. Applicant must live in or provide own transportation to Elk City.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: BUS DRIVER: Safely transport students to and from Western Technology Center campus(s) and authorized field trips/excursions in accordance with DOT requirements and WTC policy/procedure.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Team Leader and/or Director of Student Services are responsible for supervision. Director of Student Services is responsible for evaluation with input from the Maintenance Team Leader. Evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the board's policy on performance appraisal reviews for support personnel.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Class B CDL, Oklahoma driver's license. The successful candidate must acquire a school bus driver’s license (endorsements "S" and "P" and be able to operate an air brake equipped vehicle) and pass a physical exam and drug screening.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to use and operate all tools, equipment and supplies needed in a safe manner. Ability to deal effectively with school officials. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and ability to establish good rapport with department staff is essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for driving a 50+ passenger bus and ensure the safe transporting and delivery of high school students to and from our campus.
