COVID-19 Update
In an effort to ensure we are making the best decisions for the health and safety of our students, staff and communities, and in accordance to a mandate from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Western Technology Center will invoke an operational shutdown in an attempt to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Beginning March 19 through April 3, our campuses will be COMPLETELY shut down. During this time, students and stakeholders will not be permitted on any campus. The only exception; essential staff members for basic business operations. Supervisors will notify those staff members to their respective campuses on April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, to clean and prepare for facilities to open on April 6th.
In an attempt, to mitigate group gatherings, ALL IN-PERSON CLASSES, MEETINGS, TRAININGS and TRAVEL are CANCELLED. This includes on-and-off campus events, all short-term courses, business trainings and facility usage. However, Practical Nursing, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene and College Algebra will be online starting March 23rd. Respective instructors for these specific programs will be contacting their students regarding electronic instructional services.
This is an unprecedented situation, and it continues to evolve. We know this uncertainty can cause anxiety and worry, but we want to assure you that Western Technology Center is doing everything possible to ensure the needs of students and employees will be met during this time.
We encourage you to comply with what health officials have recommended as well. If you can, please stay home! If you must go out, please practice social distancing, allowing at least six feet between you and other individuals.
Communication will be the key during the next two weeks. It is our hope that accurate up-to-date correspondence will combat fear and panic. You can also get the latest information by visiting www.westtech.edu and following our social media accounts. Students and staff will also receive updates using School Messenger, our emergency mass communication platform.
There is nothing more important than the safety and health of our students, staff, and community. We will remain in close communication with state officials, and ODCTE, and follow their recommendations as the situation progresses.
Please stay safe and informed!

WTC Pandemic Preparedness and Response Update
March 12, 2020
Western Technology Center has received guidance from the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma State Department of Education regarding the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), influenza and other communicable diseases. WTC continues to monitor this situation and will continue to provide updates to our school community as needed.
In an effort to prevent and/or reduce the spread of COVID-19, WTC is observing the following preventive measures to help keep our students, staff and clients healthy.
Travel
Individuals who travel to China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan or any other location under a level 2 or level 3 Travel Health Notice per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will not be allowed to return to school or enter WTC premises or activities for a period of 14 days after leaving a Travel Health Notice area and should self-quarantine.
During that time:
- Contact your local County Health Department for further guidance.
- Check your temperature twice per day, watch for cough and trouble breathing.
- Stay home and avoid contact with others. Do not go to work or school for this 14-day period. Discuss your situation over the phone with your WTC district contact before returning to work or school.
Preventive Measures We Are taking at WTC
In addition to the above travel guidance, WTC is also taking the following actions to protect our school community:
- Enhanced screening of visitors/guests to WTC.
- Daily sanitizing of regularly touched surfaces.
- Use of Electrostatic Disinfectant Sprayers in school buses and other high traffic areas.
- Students and staff who feel sick or have flu-like symptoms including fever, cough or rash are required to stay away from WTC premises and activities (self-quarantine may be recommended).
- Encouraging everyone to frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and to use at least 60% alcohol hand sanitizer when hand-washing is not available.
- Encouraging everyone to avoid touching their face, nose and mouth.
Everyday Preventive Measures You Can Take
While we are doing our best to protect our school community, there are also everyday steps you can take to prevent illness.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use at least 60% alcohol hand sanitizer when hand-washing is not available.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your face, nose and mouth.
- Avoid large crowds and travel to impacted areas.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash; cough into your elbow if a tissue is not available.
- Clean/disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily using a regular household detergent and water.
- If you feel sick, stay home unless seeking medical care and wear a face mask.
- Get this year’s influenza vaccine if you have not already done so.
